"It’s still real to me damn it!"

Playing World Wide Wrestling the RPG. OR It’s still real to me damn  it! I have said before on this blog (and for the record taken some heat for it,) that I feel Nathan Paoletta's World Wide Wrestling RolePlaying game , is the best stab anyone has taken a the world of pro wrestling in the form of an RPG. I stand by that, at least until I find a game I like better. That statement is not  meant to demean anyone who has taken previous shots at the genre. I feel Nathan approached the world of Pro wrestling from a unique angle, that of playing both the  wrestlers and the people behind the gimmicks as they are in the real world. I find this approach to be extremely satisfying, I knew I would from the moment I read the  book. Now that I have had the chance to live in the game for a few sessions I do have one  gripe. I am ( As I have stated before ) Not a fan of the Apocalypse World (AW) RPG engine. I have never been able to put my finger on exactly why, but for our gro...

It's not you Dungeon World, It's me.

Before You start this post you might want to read this about converting my venerable D&D game to Dungeon World. You might not want to cause you know the blogs not that great. If you do great, it's all related. So I started that process. Converting  my D&D game to dungeon world. I hate it. I'm sorry. Well lets be honest, I'm not sorry, and hate is a strong word. Let me explain. I like Dungeon World very much. I like the  way games are set up, I like the way it runs,  and what I particularly like is that characters right out of the box are bad ass. What I don't like is this: In my mind the transition of characters from humble beginnings to transcendent heroes, is the game. When the last true druid presented the Master a low level druid with a totem walnut and told the Master he was to pledge himself to the earth as it's protector. It was a harbinger of the future, a direction to move towards, a burden of responsibility that the character was in no way ready f...

Transitioning from AD&D to Dungeon World, sounds big right? Right?

Out with one in with another: So last night after a quick game on roll 20 the group I game with decided that it would be fun to convert their characters from my long standing campaign over to Dungeon World. So what does this mean for my relationship with AD&D 2nd edition? I think it's pretty much over. Breaking up is hard I know.. It's not you it's me... I'll pay for a cab. Over course of time my campaign has been run in, BX D&D (red box) Rules compendium D&D Advanced D&D Second edition AD&D Third edition D&D Phase Abandon (home brew) I might be forgetting something , but lets face it one more game system wont make a difference. I have nothing against the various flavors of D&D. I still have this pipe dream to return to basic D&D at some point. I would love taking the Basic D&D rules compendium that's slowly turning yellow in my attic for one final spin. Though I think the chance of that happening is shrinking fast at this ...
